Since the 2nd World War, witnesses have described encounters with some very strange looking creatures . These are not the same as alien encounters, where the aliens have have a consciousness and purpose but odd beings who wouldn’t be out of place in a Dr Who episode and examples are The Men in Black, The Mothman and The Grinning Man .
The Mothman-‘Jeepers Creepers’
Below are some descriptions of these odd creatures :
The Grinning Man
The witness, then a student at Panteion Athens University was returning home at Thessaloniki, after his exams. Being a keen UFO enthusiast, was reading Morris Jessup’s “The case for the UFO”, he had bought in Athens. He was sitting near the door of the his coupe. Suddenly, a very tall man stood outside the door and stared at him. The witness did not give any attention, but the guy was making a shadow and disturbed his reading. He looked at the man. He was about 1.90 m with a very large mouth with no lips and very white teeth. His face was scarlet, “like that of a farmer”. He wore black trousers and short-sleeved checkered shirt.
He opened the window of the hall and stared at the witness grinning. After 15 minutes, during which the “man” was continuously staring at the witness, he made a gesture showing the book and another one like he was asking, “it is good, isn’t it?” The witness was terrified. There were another seven people in the coupe but seemed like they did not notice the presence of the other one outside. After 2-3 minutes, the “guy” took a position where nobody in the coupe could see him except the witness. He continued to grin. After a while, the witness decided to get outside and talk to him. But outside there was nobody. He searched all the train but there was no sign of the mysterious guy.
The Mothman
On November 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant, Roger and Linda Scarberry, and Steve and Mary Mallette, along with their young cousin, Lonnie Button, were traveling late at night in the Scarberrys’ car. They were passing the West Virginia Ordnance Works, an abandoned World War II TNT factory, about seven miles north of Point Pleasant, in the 2,500 acre McClintic Wildlife Management Area, when they noticed two red lights in the shadows by an old generator plant near the factory gate. They stopped the car, and reportedly discovered that the lights were the glowing red eyes of a large animal, “shaped like a man, but bigger, maybe six and a half or seven feet tall, with big wings folded against its back,” according to Roger Scarberry. Terrified, they drove toward Route 62, where the creature supposedly chased them at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour .
The Men In Black
Witnesses who report MIB sightings often describe them as foreign looking with exotic features ; it’s as if they’re “from somewhere else” . They look Oriental or Indian and have deeply tanned skin, although sometimes their complexions are extremely pale . The eyes of the MIB are usually described as slanted or bulging .
Their often mechanical behaviour has caused them to be described as some as being like robots or androids . They are usually seen driving black mint condition late model luxury cars such as Cadillacs or Lincolns . Their cars often operate with headlights off but ghostly purple or greensih glows illuminate the interior . Unusual insignia have been emblazoned on the doors and the licence plates are always unidentifiable or untraceable .
So what is going on ? The rationalist would immediately dismiss it as hallucinations or an outright hoax perpetrated for some odd reason . To my mind, this is a cop out as these beings have been described all over the world and the only result to the witness of telling anyone, is normally derision and taunts of ‘how much had you drunk ?’ . I am sure some are hoaxes but many of the witnesses accounts seem genuine . Something odd happened to them and reasonably, they want to know what it was they experienced .
The Grinning Man-‘Dr.Who’
If these experiences are real, what is the cause ? In the case of the ‘Men In Black’ they maybe government sponsored but this doesn’t make sense of their odd demeanour . Over the last few years, I have come to realise everything in the physical world has its source in the Mind and maybe this is where the answer lies .
Quantum physics has thrown our material world into disarray and many serious scientists believe in ‘A Many World Theory’ of infinite parallel universes where anything and everything is possible .
From In Search Of Schrodingers Cat by John Gribbin :
Hugh Everett’s interpretation is that the overlapping wave functions of the whole universe, the alternative realities that interact to produce measurable interference at the quantum level do not collapse . All of them are equally real, and exist in their own parts of “superspace” (and supertime) . What happens when we make a measurement at the quantum level is that we are forced by the process of observation to select one of these alternatives, which becomes part of what we see as the real world .
In effect, it’s not a question whether Mothman, The Men in Black and The Grinning Man do exist, according to the Many Worlds Theory they must exist . My hypothesis is that there maybe weird dimensions where such oddities exist and are normally shut off from us, but in certain circumstances they appear in our world . From their descriptions, it maybe they do not have consciousness as we understand it and exist only because they must .
Of course, this is only a theory and there are probably many other more reasonable explanations . If you have your own theory, I would be interested to hear it and feel free to comment .
